| My home is a 1950 prefab and I'd like to remodel and build a addition to it. Is it sturdy enough to do this? I need to enlarge the bedrooms, bath, and kitchen. |

| You will want a consultation with a struuctural engineer. In our area, codes weren't adapted and enforced until the late fifties. If that's the case in your area, you probably have no documentation on the structural or engineering of your home on record. You might inquire at your local building dept. to see if they have anything on file, but I would tend to doubt it. Your best bet is someone licensed and reputable who knows where to look such as existing footing sizes, wall structure, floor loads if you are going up, etc. |
