No. We have a Toyota van. Hope they don't find something wrong with that. Toyota always had a good product, until now. |

If it's the right vehicle at the right price, I wouldn't let this thing stop me from buying one. They're still an excellent vehicle. I've never owned one, but have considered them.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

We'll buy another one. We haven't driven anything but since 1976. I expect them to be offering very good deals soon, and we'll be at the head of the line to get a new one.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

I might just get one. My vehicle needs to be replaced. We were leaning towards a Honda, but if it's a good deal, I may just go with the Toyota.

I just got a 2010 Camry XLE in December and it's a beauty. Gave my 2002 Camry to 16 year old granddaughter because it is such a good car. We're waiting for a letter from our Toyota dealer to take my new one in for the brake fix thing. DH owns his second Toyota truck and couldn't do without it.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

Yes, I would consider buying an older Toyota, a model before they changed to "throttle by wire". The older models had the gas pedal mechanically connected to the throttle plate by a cable. In the past, I've considered Toyota, but bought something else because Toyota was pricer than other selections. Right now, my pick is a used Honda CR-V with all wheel drive. The new ones are beyond my budget.

I wont be buying another car any time soon, so I don't have an opinion on that. But my neighbor bought a Prius a few months ago. I've decided not to mention the subject unless he brings it up. The whole thing is just so unimaginable to me; how could this happen? Sue

I work at a Toyota Dealership in Edmonton and since this recall, things are crazy there. The service dept is going nuts with phone calls. We finally got the parts in today to fix the problem and we were calling the customers to come back to have the part put in. People who had put deposits on Toyota's that they ordered, are now cancelling their orders and getting refunds. The cars that have come in, we can't deliver them. After seeing the commericals tonight on tv with their statement, I hope they fix the problem and the customers will come back.

In the past, I've considered Toyota, but bought something else because Toyota was pricer than other selections. Yep, me too! I'd buy from them even now. They have a good track record for reliability. DD had a older Celica... it was an excellent car. No major problems besides a clutch going out and the resale value was very good when we sold it. |
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

I absolutely WOULD. I think a lot of this has to do with the US government OWNING General Motors. How many recalls have THEY had?????

Would not have bought one before and would not buy one now. It is not the car, I have a very low opinion of the "customer service" given by the local dealerships.

Not me. Have owned Volkswagons for eons and have always been happy with them. Very reliable and safe.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

no and if you do a bit of looking into this problem it actually goes back to past 2004 or atleast that is how long a safety board has been receiving complaints on a 'brake' issue. saw a segment on national news that many investigators say it is not an actual brake problem but an electrical interference causing it. thou toyota does not want that said in the media at all. computer electrical issues would kill the brand since they are random (all of their cars would need new systems), and boil down to a lack of quality control which opens another can of worms for them. the whole thing makes me suspicious about toyota since even i had heard about the prius problem last fall and it only caught my attention because my uncle bought 5 of them 3 yrs ago for he & his kids. what would keep me from ever owning a toyota is the smple fact they really screwed up this problem by ignoring the US govt's request to investigate this problem last fall. the US corp office of toyota ignored the govt and our govt had to send someone to japan to convince the main corp there was a problem LOL how pathetic is THAT!? there have been 18 deaths in the last 2 yrs and more than 5,000 crashes and toyota did not voluntarily do this recall... that alone says something. ~ liz

Like redcurls, I would. We have a Toyota mini van. It is our third, no, fourth Toyota and we were totally happy with all of them. Personally, I think the whole thing has been whipped up to a frenzy, maybe by the UAW union? so they might sell more American cars? Moni
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

No Toyotas, we buy american, so it'll be Fords for us from now on since they didn't take any government bailout money. We currently own a Saturn SL1 car and Vue SUV. Saturn is out of business so they're hopeless. The Toyata commercial during the Super Bowl was so strange -- it was a big apology about how they have always tried to be so good but recently things haven't gone right and they're going to do their best to fix it all. Fine, but the whole ad was showing ordinary employees working on the automobile production line -- workers who have no control over car design or specifications. So it seemed to me like they were saying the ordinary workers failed us, not the muckety mucks who do the designing and make decisions about quality. No Toyotas for us.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

No, but I wouldn't consider it even if it was perfect. I buy as American as I can. Vique.

Cheekybones says "It is not the car, I have a very low opinion of the "customer service" given by the local dealerships." I have an even lower opinion of how the manufacturer treats their suppliers. I spent 14 years working for a company that supplied parts to a Toyota assembly plant. They had no respect for suppliers, every year they threatened to take away contracts if the supplier did not lower their prices, but the cost of the cars kept going up (more profit for Toyota, less for the supplier). They would dangle the prospect of new contracts in front of the supplier, and then, after the supplier had spent money readying the factory for the new business, Toyota would cancel. They constantly had suppliers jump through all kinds of hoops to "be compliant" to their "standards" (ISO certified, environmentally green, energy efficient, etc.). All of that is quite costly to the supplier - and they were already cut to the bone to meet Toyota's cost demands. The place I worked also supplied parts to Honda, GM, Nissan, and Ford - none of them made the ridiculous demands like Toyota. I never cared for Toyota, but after seeing how they treat suppliers (just "because they can" and while putting more profit in their pockets) I never would own a Toyota.

We owned a Toyota pickup and Toyota station wagon since we were married in 1976. Both these were in our early years of marriage. I'm guessing we owned them a couple or 3 years each. Then only American cars. I don't know if we would buy them again or not. We didn't have any major problems with them while we had them, but DH does like the Chevy vehicles much better. |

We have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. I LOVE it. It is not one of the vehicles recalled (and if it was due to the floor mat thing, we have all weather floormats). We might trade it in this spring for a vehicle with better gas mileage and more cargo room because the 2nd kid is coming, but honestly, it has more cabin room than my Subaru Outback.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

We sure would. Ours is a Camry 2009 and we'll just wait this out and when new models start coming out again, we'll be in line to get one.

My mother told me not to buy a Toyota, after what the Japanese did to us in WWII. Hey, didn't we drop atomic bombs on two of their cities? My 2004 Corolla hasn't been recalled. It gives me good service.

We love our Toyota's. Best cars and trucks we've ever had. We bought a new Camry in 1994 and still have it. My oldest son is using it now as a commuter car. It gets terrific gas mileage. I have a 2003 Camry and DH has a (can't remember the year) Tacoma. Youngest son has a Tacoma. Great vehicles and none of us has had any problem with the accelerator pedal. This spring or summer, I plan to buy a new Camry and sell my '03 to my BIL for his daughter. They all have Toyota's and he said it's hard to find used Camry's. I've never had a problem with the service dept. as I've never had to get anything fixed other than routine oil changes and new tires/alignment. I just like having a well-built dependable car and the Camry is it for me.

I'd probably buy another since the one we bought new in 2005 runs so well. We have a Matrix, which isn't the prettiest car on the lot, but it gets great gas mileage. I'd love a Rav-4! What I'd really like is a Suburu Forester! Glenda, I had a Nissan and hated it, too. It was a 5-speed and the clutch developed a problem where it would stick to the floor ever time I stopped at a light. I'd have to take my foot and push it up from underneath. Scary! It was in the shop more than out of it. I have no "Buy American" feelings because lots of "American made" car parts are made overseas and lots of "foreign cars" parts are made right here. Go figure!

The gas metal sticking is not a new thing. I bought a 1989 Toyota Tercel for my DD when she was in High School years ago. Her gas metal would stick and it was very scary. We got rid of it.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

Nope, but wouldn't buy one anyway... My next car purchased will either be a classic 68/69 Camaro or a newer/used Passat...Likely the Passat will be cheaper.. We have a Mazda MPV, an old Ford Ranger and a Jetta.. They've all served us well...very well...

If I had the money, yes, I'd buy an Avalon. or the VW or Audi clean diesel. But since I don't, i'm more than happy with my 10 year old Ford! lol |
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

No, but I wouldn't have bought one before either. BTDT. Not doing that again. Linda
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

I've had quite a few Toyotas but really prefer Hondas and that's what I have now. I've been thinking how happy I am that I no longer have a Toyota. I might buy one again some day but this current ordeal will need to be a distant memory.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

I loved my Toyota Camry's. Traded last one for Nissan and do not like it. First car I ever owned was a VW Beetle. Had 4 Mitsubishi's that I loved.

I love my '99 Corolla. Bought it used in 2001 and have had no problems with it whatsoever. I'd buy another one.

I love my 09 Nissan Sentra and the dealership here is wonderful. I am going to keep my Sentra for 20 years.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now?

That's all we have driven for years and that is all we will continue to drive. All auto makers have had recalls at one time or another. This doesn't bother me. My sister has one that is on the recall list. Drives it everyday. She is waiting for her recall from Toyota so she can take it in to be repaired.
RE: Would you buy a Toyota now? Yes

As far as buying American-Toyota has a mfg plant in Georgetown Ky, and it my po dunk town there is a factory that makes the interiors for Toyota-this plant employs over 4oo people, and no telling how many the plant in Georgetown employs. You can't get much more American than something that comes from Kentucky.
