Speaking of Valentines....

Posted by maybee (My Page) on

I didn't want to hi-jack Marilyn's Valentine post. I got this Valentine in the mail this week. When we were in school, we gave each of our classmates a Valentine. I gave this Valentine to a boy when I was in 1st grade. He sent it back to me this week...that would make it about sixty two or sixty three years old. I was so thrilled to open the envelope and see this old Valentine there....

Have you and he kept in touch through the years, or was this an unexpected surprise? Did he write anything, or just send the card? Will you send it back to him next year? How fun!

Something about that valentine is making me chuckle. 'You're sure SOLID on the DOWN BEAT' - what does that mean? Almost sounds a bit dirty LOL.

I miss valentines with envelopes. Nick's kindergarten teacher (who is retiring after this year) sent instructions on how kids should write the names on the envelopes and on the valentines but they don't seem to make cards with envelopes anymore. They all require some sort of folding and sealing and there is usually some other paraphernalia involved.

When I was a kid, I got lots of Valentines from classmates. But as I grew older and entered High School, I had no boyfriends and hence no Valentines. I remember one bittersweet year when my only Valentine was a small chocolate heart from my mother, given to me at the breakfast table. I broke down crying.

This is such a sweet story. What a special person you must have been in his life for him to have kept this valentine for all these years!!!
