slipping n sliddin'....in the house

I fell, or I should say slid down the basement steps last night. My foot went over the edge of the 5th step from the top and I slid down, bumping hard on each step, all the way to the bottom. (About 6 steps) My shoulder, side and back, and bottom all bumped each step and I think I bruised my kidney area. There is some bruising, but not as much as I thought there would be. I guess it's a good thing I'm kind of fluffy...nothing broke.

Oh Dee, that sounds painful regardless of your "fluff"! I hope you did not bruise your tailbone. That hurts like the dickens for ages!

Remember being a kid? Or watching our own kids? They fell all the time. Then you grow up and that stops. Then you get older and it starts all over again! Not fair!

I have fallen down our back steps more times than I care to admit to.

Be safe and put some ice on if you need it!

Dee, be sure to rest today and for a few days more if you can. That's not a good fall you took. So sorry.

As I'm reading your post, I'm 'feeling' the pain of it as that very thing has happened to me in the past. I'll send healing vibes your way.

AWW Dee...bless your heart...I hope you did a nice hot soak in the tub after that...you be careful and don't over do it till your nice and healed! I live in fear of falling down our stairs...i always make sure the dogs and cats are outta my way before going down! My hubster also installed those opera lights like they have in theaters so we can see at night without turning on a light!

Seems I fall once every winter. I took my spill in December when we had 12 inches of snow. I went for a walk to get a newspaper and fell in an icy parking lot. Hurt my wrist but only a little, I'm fine now. And I feel like once I've fallen,it never happens again. Hope you feel better. Take 2 Advil and a hot shower.

Ouch, ouch, ouch! You poor dear, I just hate falling, much less down stair steps. Get some rest and take good care of yourself.

Ouch, Dee. Hope you are feeling better. I did that once - couldn't even breathe for the first few minutes afterwards. We added stair trends the next day. Hope you are taking it easy and icing your sore spots.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I am feeling quite a bit better, but can't lean back in a chair or the car. I have 3 large bruises, one on my shoulder, a really large one in the kidney area, and one on my butt (lol). I think we should follow colorcrazy's idea and put stair treads on the steps. Thanks for that tip. Thanks again everyone.

Oh! The Pain!
I remember it well. I did that a few years ago. I remember trying to stop myself all the way, but unable to accomplish anything.
You may find yourself feeling even worse tomorrow, and the "color show" on your backside will be quite a sight.

Give yourself a bit of extra rest and pampering!

Oh boy, I bet you will be so sore the next few days. I'm sorry, but am so glad nothing is broken.

Take care, Dee.

Glad you're not hurt. This reminds me of when I was a kid. Some friends had this great old two-story house with the steps with the 90° turn and the landing then to more steps. They had this nice carpet on them. And we had more fun sliding down those steps just the way you went down the basement! After several trips we got the knack down to give a little lean, push off a bit and we wouldn't stop on the landing, just make the curve and continue on down at a higher speed! Just like sliding down a rough hill in the winter!

Cynic that makes me hurt just hearin about it!! My son used to take the pillows off the couch, loveseat and chair and line the stairs and slide down them...Oh to be 5 years old and be able to do that!
