We Just Saw a Coyote and Other Info

We were about 3 miles from home and in an open stretch of a very large field, Amber asked, is that a dog. You seldom see dogs running loose unless they are in their yard. I looked and told her no it is a coyote. It was very pretty and big. We stopped the truck and she rolled down the window and whistled for it and it started to run then stopped again. By that time Lily and Izzi spied it and they started barking and it took off then. We very seldom see them but we know they are out there somewhere.

We got back from our grocery shopping. I got chicken leg quarters for $.79 a pound, boneless, skinless chicken breasts for $1.79, three nice bunches of romaine lettuce for $1.79, Roma tomatoes $.99 a pound, a bunch of large radishes were $.99, a gallon of skim milk was $2.29, three loaves of Aunt Millies whole grain bread for $2.99, and Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce was $.99 a bottle.

We did notice that some parts of the highway as we got closer to home were icy compared to where we went to shop and we also have more snow up here. Parking lots at both Meijer and Walmart were free from snow and ice.

We had lunch from Steak and Shake. We each got a bowl of chili. It was not good. Hardly any meat and rather soupy. We had our water with us to drink. Now we are back home and shopping is done for the week. Are there some good grocery bargains in your neck of the woods?

Sue

My DHs favorite chili was Steak N Shakes. I couldn't eat it as back when we lived there eons ago the top of the bowl was a thick layer of orange grease. But I did love their burgers, fries and lemonade. We miss SNS out here on the west coast.

We heard a racket about a month ago in the middle of the night. The next day I talked to the neighbor and he said it was coyote and her pups-they had lost sight of the Mom. He's lived here all his life and is a hunter, so I do think that's what it was. I had no idea they were even in FL.

we have them here in the orlando area lisa! i work in Longwood, near Alaqua Lakes and Alaqua Country Club where a lot of professional golfers live. so you know this is definitely not country, it's very high-end city life. we have had a pack of 4 coyotes around in the early a.m.'s lately, along w/ a pesky, too friendly ~400lb black bear the state won't come get lol. ~ liz

I've seen one here in our housing complex in Ocala, too. Don't know what happened to it because it hasn't been around for a while. Poor thing looked like a great big dog in need of some serious grooming!

There is an article in our local paper tonight, front page, warning residents in our area of town about Coyotes. I saw one just several weeks ago out behind our house. Apparently a man lost his dog to a pack. He let both dogs out but only one came back. He found the carcass 100 feet off his backyard. Our yard is fenced but I will watch carefully now before I let Jaggs out! The one I saw showed no fear when I was out on the deck. It just stood and stared at me. Gave me the shivers!

I live in the middle of San Francisco in a densely populated area. We have a canyon nearby. One morning I took a picture of a gray dog, nope...a coyote..walking up the middle of the street. I've seen other coyotes in our area. There are also many living in Golden Gate Park.

Nice shot, lindakathy!

We have coyotes -- and deer, raccoons, possums, ducks, *skunks*, rabbits, you-name-it. (No bears, though!) We are in a suburb 30 miles north of Chicago, along a creek. The animals can roam from south of the metropolis and into Wisconsin, just by traveling through interconnected forest preserves. I seldom *see* a coyote, but hear them sometimes.

We do see the deer. They have a century old path along the creek. Recently my DH was walking our Westie when five deer emerged from the path. Two does waited in the street while their yearlings caught up, then they all paraded single file before heading north towards what DH calls their 'clubhouse' (a vacant lot along the golf course).

Our Westie knows to stay close to the house when he smells coyote! Sometimes I think his nose will fall off, he's sniffing so avidly.

One summer night my dog went outside in my suburban back yard and came nose to nose with a coyote. I chased it away and called the police the next day to make a report. One night a deer layed down in my nMother's back yard and fell asleep, ten feet from her door. .

Sad to say Coyotes can be dangerous. They like little doggies, kitties, and will even attack a small child. If they cross breed with a dog, they seem to loose their fear of people, and are quite aggresive. They are in every state and the reason they go into cities, is that people invade their territory, leave food out, garbage thrown out, etc. DO NOT ever try to approch one, as they do carry all sorts of diseases.

I live in NW Florida and we have a Coyote in our neighborhood - he was recently sitting in my neighbor's driveway - beautiful animal!
